Your repair visit

What to expect when PowerClean comes to your home

No runaround: here's the whole PowerClean visit, start to finish. You'll know who's coming to your door, what the $80 diagnostic covers and when you get the repair price.

The short version

How does a PowerClean repair visit work?

A PowerClean repair visit has six steps. You book by phone or text, or through our online form. Blake or Jake, one of our two technicians, comes to your home and calls when he's a few minutes out. The $80 diagnostic finds what has failed. You get repair options and pricing, and you decide before any work begins. When the part is on the truck, the repair is done on the same visit, and you pay once it's finished. If you go ahead with the repair, the $80 is credited toward it.

Step 1

How do I get on the schedule?

Call or text 801-648-8639, or request service online. We're open Monday–Friday 7am–8pm and Saturday 7am–7pm. Tell us the appliance and its brand, what it's doing (a noise, a leak, an error code on the display) and the city it's in. Not sure we cover it? Here's everything we repair.

Adalyn, our customer experience coordinator, confirms your appointment and keeps you posted from there. Same-day appointments are available whenever possible, and calling earlier in the day helps.

We cover 22 cities: 16 in Salt Lake County, plus Provo, Orem, Lehi and Saratoga Springs in Utah County and Bountiful and Layton in Davis County. See every city we serve.

A little preparation makes the visit quicker:

  • Clear a path to the appliance
  • Take any clothes out of the washer or dryer
  • Find the model number if you can

One exception: if a front-loader's door is locked or there's water in the drum, leave it for us. Don't force the door.

The model number tells us which parts to bring. On a top-load washer it's usually under the lid; on a front-loader or a dryer, around the door opening. In a refrigerator, look on a side wall of the fresh-food section; on a range, try the frame behind the bottom drawer or around the oven door opening. Can't find it? Your technician will.

Pets? No need to put them away. We're dog people — your pets are welcome to supervise.

Step 2

Who will show up at my door?

One of our two technicians: Blake Lonsberry or Jake Marriott. Blake, PowerClean's owner, has 14+ years in appliance repair; Jake is our lead technician. It's always a PowerClean technician, and you can meet Blake, Jake and the rest of the team before the visit.

We call when we're a few minutes out. Before taking anything apart, your technician will ask what you've noticed: when it started, any noises or error codes, and anything you've already tried.

Step 3

What does the $80 diagnostic cover?

The $80 diagnostic covers the trip to your home and the diagnosis itself. Your technician inspects the appliance and tests the likely parts to find what has actually failed. On an electric dryer that won't heat, for example, that means checking the thermal fuse, heating element and thermostats with a multimeter rather than guessing. We also inspect the vent path, because a restricted vent is a common reason a thermal fuse blows.

It also covers a plain explanation of what's wrong, with repair options and pricing before any work starts. If you go ahead, the $80 is credited toward the repair. If you'd rather not, you still know what's wrong and what the repair would cost. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.

Step 4

What are my repair options?

Your technician walks you through what failed and why, then lays out your options with a price for each. We use OEM parts whenever they're available. There's no hard sell and no unnecessary upselling: if a simple fix solves the problem, that's the fix we recommend.

Our rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than half of a comparable new unit and yours is under roughly 8–10 years old, repairing is usually the cheaper and greener choice. When it isn't, we'll say so — even though it means we don't do the job. Our pricing page explains when replacing is the smarter call.

The same thinking applies to deciding whether a refrigerator is worth fixing: if yours is under 10 years old, repair is usually cheaper than replacement. If it's a bigger job, such as a compressor or sealed-system repair, you get the price and our honest view of whether it's worth doing before any work.

Step 5

Will it be fixed on the same visit?

Usually, yes. Once you approve the repair, your technician gets started. Because we carry the components that fail most often, most repairs finish in one visit.

Sometimes a part has to be ordered. Before we order it, we tell you which part, the price and roughly when it should arrive. Adalyn then schedules the return visit to install it.

Already bought the part yourself? Installation may be available with prior approval. Typical labor is about $160–$200 depending on the repair. Customer-supplied parts aren't covered by PowerClean's parts warranty. If that's your plan, mention it when you book.

Step 6

What happens when the repair is done?

Before calling it finished, your technician runs the appliance with you — a short test cycle on a washer, a heat check on a dryer — so you can see it working. A refrigerator or freezer takes hours to get fully cold again, so with those, we confirm it's cooling before we leave. Then we tidy up the work area. Payment is due when the repair is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. An adult needs to be there to let your technician in and to approve the repair once the diagnostic is done. No repair starts until someone has seen the options and the price.
Most diagnostics are done within an hour, and most repairs finish in one visit because we carry the parts that fail most often. Bigger jobs take longer, and your technician will tell you what to expect before starting.
We order it, then come back to install it once it's in. Before placing the order, we tell you which part you need, the price and about when it should arrive. We use OEM parts whenever they're available. If you go ahead with the repair, the $80 diagnostic is still credited toward it.
Not for the repair itself. The price we can give you before the visit is the $80 diagnostic, which is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. The repair price comes once your technician has found the fault, and you'll have it before any work starts. On the phone, we can talk through the symptoms and what's likely causing them.
No need. We're dog people — your pets are welcome to supervise. If your dog gets anxious with visitors, a quiet room nearby can make the visit easier for them.
