Ice Maker Repair in Salt Lake & the Wasatch Front

No ice, tiny or hollow cubes, a frozen fill tube, or a leak into the bin? We diagnose ice maker problems on all major brands, right in your kitchen. Common ice maker kits and inlet valves are usually on the truck, so most repairs take a single visit.

What we fix

Common ice maker problems we solve

PowerClean repairs the ice maker inside your refrigerator or freezer — not making ice, frozen over, leaking, or not dispensing — across Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah counties, with same-day appointments whenever possible. Every job starts with an $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair if you go ahead.

No ice at all

No ice at all usually means the ice maker is switched off or its shutoff arm is up, water isn't reaching it, it has failed, or the freezer is too warm for it to cycle (aim for 0°F). If the refrigerator itself isn't cooling, that comes first — see our refrigerator repair page.

Too few or hollow cubes

Small or hollow cubes mean the mold isn't filling fully, usually from low water flow, a clogged filter, or a partly frozen fill tube; too few cubes can also mean a warm freezer. Left alone, low flow often ends in no ice, which is why we check the filter early when an ice maker stops making ice.

Frozen over

Ice bridging the mold or encasing the ice maker generally comes from overfilling or spilled water — a dribbling inlet valve, a refrigerator that isn't level, or a partly frozen fill tube — or a worn door seal letting humid air in. Thawing only buys time, so we fix the cause; frost across the whole freezer is a freezer repair job instead.

Leaking or pooling water

Water in the bin or ice on the freezer floor typically traces back to an inlet valve that doesn't shut off fully, a fill tube misaligned with the fill cup, or a cracked ice tray. We find the leak, then replace the valve or tray, or realign the fill tube.

Won't dispense ice

If the dispenser lock is off and a full bin gives nothing at the door, it's often cubes fused into a block, a failed auger motor, a worn dispenser switch, or a solenoid that won't open the chute flap. We test those parts, clear the jam, and find out why the ice clumped — a dribbling inlet valve, a warm freezer, or ice left unused for weeks.

Cloudy or bad-tasting ice

Cloudy cubes are normal — mostly trapped air and dissolved minerals — but ice that tastes or smells off points to an overdue filter, a bin that needs washing, or old ice that's absorbed freezer odors. If your water is the real issue, we'll say so rather than sell you a repair.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Usually the new filter is the wrong one or isn't fully seated, or the change left air in the line. Make sure the filter is correct and locked in, then run water through the door dispenser, if you have one, for several minutes. If there's still no ice after 24 hours, it's likely a frozen fill tube, the inlet valve, or the ice maker itself.
Often, yes. When a frozen fill tube or dribbling inlet valve is to blame, we usually replace the valve, or the fill tube heater on models with one, and keep the ice maker. If the ice maker's own heater or motor has failed, a new assembly is the better fix. The $80 diagnostic tells you which before any work starts — see how our pricing works.
Usually one visit, because common ice maker kits and inlet valves are normally on the truck. If a part has to be ordered, we come back to install it. Expect the first new ice within about 24 hours, and throw out the first few batches. Book online or call 801-648-8639.
Yes, both, along with GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Kenmore, Sub-Zero, and the other brands we service. We're an independent repair company, not a Samsung or LG authorized service center, and use OEM parts whenever available. Our Samsung repair page and LG repair page cover each brand's common faults.
