Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement in Utah

Disposal humming but not turning, leaking under the sink, or completely dead? We'll get it running again if it can be saved — and if it can't, we'll say so. Disposals are one of the few appliances where replacement is often the honest answer, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair.

What we fix

Common garbage disposal problems we solve

Hums but won't turn

A humming disposal has power but a jammed flywheel — usually glass, a bone chip, or a bottle cap wedged against the impeller. We clear the jam, check the motor didn't cook itself, and reset it.

Completely dead

No hum, no spin. Start with the red reset button underneath. After that it's the wall switch, the outlet, the breaker, or a burned-out motor. We test the circuit before we touch the unit.

Leaking under the sink

Where it drips tells you what failed: the top is the sink flange and mounting gasket, the side is the dishwasher inlet or discharge tube, and the bottom is the motor seal — which means the unit is finished.

Slow drain or backing up

If water backs up into the sink, the problem is usually downstream in the P-trap or branch drain, not the disposal. We'll tell you when it's a drain-line job rather than sell you a disposal you don't need.

Loud grinding or rattling

Rattling is usually a foreign object in the chamber, a loose mounting ring, or a broken impeller lug. A metal-on-metal grind with nothing in the chamber often means the shredder ring or the bearings are worn out, and that calls for a new unit rather than a repair.

Dishwasher won't drain into it

New disposals ship with the dishwasher inlet plugged. If your disposal or dishwasher was recently installed and the dishwasher won't drain, that knockout plug is the first thing we check — and it's a quick fix.

Every type

Types we repair

Continuous-feed or batch-feed, 1/3 HP to 1 HP: we diagnose the fault and tell you straight whether it's worth repairing or time for a new unit.

  • Continuous-feed
  • Batch-feed
  • 1/3 & 1/2 HP
  • 3/4 & 1 HP
  • Septic-safe models
  • Air-switch controlled

What we repair

Often fixable

Plenty of disposal faults are a part, not a whole new unit. These are the ones we repair rather than replace.

  • Sink flanges, mounting assemblies and snap rings
  • Mounting gaskets and splash guards
  • Discharge tubes and their gaskets
  • The dishwasher inlet knockout
  • Air switches, buttons and power cords
  • A jammed flywheel or a tripped reset button
When we say replace

Not worth repairing

And these are the ones where a new unit is genuinely the cheaper answer. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair that won't last.

  • The motor is seized and won't free up
  • It's leaking from the bottom of the housing — that's the motor seal
  • The shredder ring or bearings are worn out
  • It's around 10 years old or more and keeps failing

Frequently asked questions

Often yes. With it unplugged or switched off at the breaker, fit the hex wrench that came with the unit into the socket at the center of the bottom and work the flywheel free, lift out whatever jammed it with tongs or pliers — never your hand — then press the red reset button. If the flywheel won't budge, or it turns freely and the disposal still only hums, the motor has likely failed and it's time for a new unit. Call 801-648-8639 if you'd rather not reach under there.
Both. The mounting hardware, flange, gaskets and discharge tube are all serviceable, but a seized motor or a leak from the bottom of the housing means the unit is done. We'll diagnose which it is and give you options and pricing before any work begins.
Often it isn't. If water backs up on both sides of a double sink, or rises in the other bowl when the disposal runs, the restriction is usually downstream in the P-trap or branch drain. That's a drain-line job, and we'll tell you rather than sell you a disposal you don't need.
It can be, and if so it's a quick fix. New disposals ship with the dishwasher inlet sealed by a knockout plug. If nobody knocked it out when the disposal or the dishwasher went in, the dishwasher has nowhere to drain. It's the first thing we check on that symptom.
