What we see most

Common LG problems and what causes them

Washer shows UE and won't finish the spin

UE means the washer can't balance the load after several tries, so it stops the spin and leaves the clothes wet. One heavy item, an overloaded drum or a washer rocking on its feet is the typical trigger. If UE keeps coming back with balanced loads, we check the shock absorbers and springs on a front-loader or the suspension rods on a top-loader.

Washer shows DE and won't start

DE means the control isn't getting a closed-and-locked signal from the door or lid, so the washer won't start or stops mid-cycle. Check first for a sock caught in the door seal or a lid that isn't fully shut. If DE comes back with the door or lid firmly shut, we test the lock assembly, the latch and the wiring on a washing machine repair visit.

Refrigerator runs but won't cool

When the freezer is cold but the fresh-food side is warm, cold air isn't getting through: a failed evaporator fan, an air damper stuck closed or a defrost fault that has iced over the evaporator coil. If both sides are warm while it runs, our refrigerator repair visit checks the condenser fan and coil, the controls and the compressor — and, on linear-compressor models, the board that drives it. If the compressor itself has failed, we can replace it, and you get the price before any work so you can weigh it against a new refrigerator.

Dryer runs cold

When an electric LG dryer tumbles but stays cold, first switch its breaker fully off and back on: if one side of the double breaker has lost power, the drum still turns but the heater gets none. If it still won't heat, the likely causes are a burned-out heating element, a blown thermal fuse or a failed thermistor. A thermal fuse usually blows because the vent is restricted, so we inspect the vent path and clear blockages too, or the new fuse would blow the same way.

Clothes still damp after a full cycle

If your LG dryer gets warm but needs two or three cycles per load, the cause is more often airflow than a failed part. Typical culprits are a lint-packed vent, a crushed hose behind the dryer or a stuck outside flap. On a repair visit we check the vent path first and clear any blockage, then test the heat side and the moisture sensor bars, which end a sensor-dry cycle early when dryer-sheet residue coats them.

Oven won't heat or bakes unevenly

On electric LG ranges and wall ovens, no heat most often means a burned-out bake element, a failed temperature sensor or a relay on the control board; on gas models, an igniter that glows but is too weak to open the gas valve. An oven that runs hot or cold points to the sensor, while uneven baking points to a failing element, the convection fan or a worn door gasket. If you smell gas, leave and call your gas utility.

Error codes

LG washer codes we're asked about

CodeApplianceWhat it usually meansWhat to check first
UEWasherUnbalanced load: the washer couldn't balance the drum for the spin after several tries.Pause, spread the load out or add a couple of towels, and restart the spin. Make sure the washer sits level and doesn't rock.
DEWasherDoor or lid lock fault: the control didn't get a closed-and-locked signal.Open the door or lid, clear anything caught in it, close it firmly and restart the cycle.

A code is a starting point, not a diagnosis — the diagnostic visit confirms the actual cause before any part is replaced.

How we work

What happens when you book an LG repair?

Each LG repair begins in your home with a diagnosis by one of our two technicians: Blake Lonsberry, our owner, who has 14+ years in appliance repair, or Jake Marriott, our lead technician. For $80, we test the appliance, find the fault and go over your repair options and pricing before any work begins. Our technicians carry the components that fail most often, so most repairs are finished in one visit. Have your model number handy when you call or book online — it tells us which parts to bring.

  • OEM LG parts whenever they're available
  • $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair
  • Same-day visits whenever possible

Other brands

Samsung, Whirlpool and the other brands we service

Samsung owners will find the faults and codes we see on our Samsung appliance repair page, and Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana owners will find the common faults on our Whirlpool repair page. Some Kenmore washers and refrigerators were built by LG, and we repair those too; every other make we service is on our full list of brands.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

No. PowerClean is an independent repair company — not affiliated with LG and not an LG authorized service center. If your appliance is still under LG's manufacturer warranty, contact LG first; LG may require one of its own service providers for warranty work. If it's out of warranty, we diagnose it in your home for $80, credited toward the repair.
It's LG's unbalanced-load code: the load was too far off-balance to spin, and the washer stopped after trying to correct it. Typical causes are one heavy item, too much in the drum or a washer that isn't level; if UE shows up with balanced loads, worn suspension parts are the likely reason.
Usually, yes. A failed evaporator fan, a defrost fault and a control problem are the common causes, and we repair all three in your home. On models with LG's linear compressor, the compressor itself can be the problem. If it is, we can replace it, and you get the price before any work.
Yes. On electric models, the heating element, thermal fuse and thermistor are the common failures, and we test each one before replacing anything. A blown thermal fuse usually points to a restricted vent, so our technicians inspect the vent path and clear blockages as part of a dryer repair visit.
