Samsung dishwashersSamsung problems and what causes them
Water left in the washer drum
This is one of the Samsung calls we get most often: the washer stops with water in the drum because it can't drain in time. Usually the cause is a clogged debris filter on a front-loader or a blocked drain hose; sometimes the drain pump itself has failed, and we carry common Samsung drain pumps. Our Samsung 5C and 5E guide shows the safe checks to try first.
Washer stops mid-cycle or won't spin
A washer won't spin until it has drained, so standing water sends us back to the drain. If the drum is empty, the usual reasons a washer won't spin are an unbalanced load, worn suspension rods on a top-loader, or a lid or door lock that isn't registering as locked. On a washing machine repair, we rule out those simpler causes before replacing a motor or control board.
Ice maker frozen over
A frosted-over ice tray and a frozen fill tube are frequent calls on Samsung French-door refrigerators: a frozen tube stops water from reaching the tray, and frost on the tray keeps ice from dropping. Not every ice maker that stops making ice is frozen, though — low water flow, an overdue filter or a failed module can look the same. We check the water supply, the seals and the ice maker itself to find which it is.
Fridge warm, fan still running
If the freezer is cold but the fresh-food side keeps warming while the fan runs, frost has probably built up on the evaporator coil. That usually points to a defrost fault — a heater, sensor or control that has stopped clearing the frost — which is one of the common reasons a refrigerator stops cooling and a standard refrigerator repair. If it turns out to be the compressor or sealed system, we repair that too, and you get the price before any work so you can weigh it against a new refrigerator.
Dryer runs with little or no heat
On an electric dryer, weak or no heat usually comes down to the heating element, a thermostat or the thermal fuse; on some Samsung models, a blown fuse stops the dryer from starting at all. A fuse that blows is often a sign of a restricted vent, which is also a frequent reason a dryer takes two cycles to dry a load. That's why we inspect the vent path and clear blockages as part of a dryer repair visit, so the new part doesn't fail the same way.
Oven won't reach temperature
On electric Samsung ranges, it's usually the bake element or a temperature sensor that has drifted; on gas models, it's often a worn igniter. Those are the main causes of an oven that won't heat on any brand, and we test the suspect part before swapping it. If you smell gas, leave and call your gas utility.
Samsung washer codes we're asked about
| Code | Appliance | What it usually means | What to check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5C | Washer | Drain error: water is still in the drum after the drain step. | Unplug the washer and let hot water cool. On a front-loader, put towels down, open the small access cover at the bottom front and drain the water slowly, a shallow panful at a time, before removing the debris filter. Check the drain hose for kinks. |
| 5E | Washer | The same drain error; some Samsung models show 5E where others show 5C. | Unplug first, then the same checks as 5C: the debris filter on a front-loader and the drain hose. |
| SC | Washer | The same drain error; on the display, 5C and SC look almost identical. | Treat it as 5C. If the filter is clear and the pump hums without moving water, stop and call. |
A code is a starting point; the diagnostic in your home confirms the cause before any part is replaced.
Diagnosis first, then the repair
Every Samsung repair starts with a diagnosis in your home. One of our two technicians comes out, tests the appliance and gives you repair options and the price before any work starts. They carry the components that fail most often, so most repairs finish in one visit.
- OEM Samsung parts whenever they're available
- $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair
- Usually a same-day fix when the part's on the truck
